it's funny how
the heart rips
wide open
in the presence of beauty
it hurts a little but
when i think back on montana
driving through slowly rising roads
i think of the narrow plain flanked
by blue mountains
every shade of blue
even some I hadn't seen
the wild flowers,
wild grasses,
wild animals,
the fences and rambling shacks,
the slant of the sun across it all
and what I remember most
is the funny, weird,
delightful
sensation of my heart being ripped
ripped open
wide open and also slightly open
just a little bit
completely
ripped
with the beauty
of the west.

lovely post.
